Hartford International University and the Spiritual Life Center (West Hartford) invite you to be part of a Spiritual Companions Group at HIU. Such a group consists of about 6 persons who meet twice a month to talk with one another about their spiritual journeys. These groups are led by Rev Oscar Brockmeyer and other experienced spiritual companions from the Spiritual Life Center.
This gentle and contemplative process involves taking a “long loving look” at one’s life in an atmosphere of confidentiality, trust, and openness. Individuals take turns sharing matters of spiritual interest. Other group members listen attentively and respond in ways that encourage the presenter to explore the situation more deeply. It is a very respectful process, without advice giving or attempts to "fix" the presenter. A strong sense of community quickly develops among group members.
Diversity is valued: persons of any spiritual tradition, or no tradition, are welcome to participate. Group members will receive a handout that provides guidance on how we can best companion one another. No prior experience is necessary.
You could use a Spiritual Companions Group to help you:
The Spiritual Companions Group at HIU group will meet online on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 1:30 to 3:00 PM. There will be five sessions on these dates: 2/13, 2/27, 3/13, 3/27, and 4/10. Regular attendance is important for group cohesion. The expectation is that participants will attend all five sessions, barring emergencies.
The program is offered free to current students of HIU and the Boston Theological Interreligious Consortium as a non-credit, co-curricular opportunity. Those who wish to make an optional $20 contribution are invited to do so. If you have questions, please contact Oscar Brockmeyer at [email protected]
