STEREOTYPES AND EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION
The ways we respond to emotions can vary depending on who we are and whom we are with. For example, anger can be perceived as normal if a white man displays it but punished if a woman or male person of color does. Or a man may be criticized as being weak if displaying compassion, whereas a woman may be expected to behave in that way. Do you express your emotions in different ways depending on gender or the color of the person you are with?
Join us for discussion and reflection on how various emotional expressions are expected of some people but frowned upon in others depending on their gender, race, job title, etc. The session will take place on Wednesday, April 27 from 1:30 to 2:30. This a program of collaboration between Hartford International University and the Spiritual Life Center (West Hartford). It is free and open to all.
