Everyone is on their own unique spiritual journey. Nevertheless, we can trace the broad outlines of spiritual stages that people tend to go through. Some people experience the stages as steps that they climb in a linear manner. Others find that they move along a spiral so that elements from different stages may be present within them at any particular time. Sometimes people get stuck at a particular point on the journey. At such times, a spiritual companion (director) may invite them to discover greater maturity.
Awareness of spiritual stages can be a great help to spiritual companions, both personally as well as professionally. Personally, such awareness helps us to grow spiritually. Professionally, we are better able to serve our directees when we are cognizant of how stages of faith are manifesting in us and in the directee.
This program will present four spiritual phases identified by Brian McLaren in his book Faith after Doubt. (The book is optional reading.)
Participants will be invited to reflect on how each stage has been, is, or could become operative in their lives. We will share our reflections with one another in small groups and, afterwards, discuss what we have learned in the large group. Members of the class will have the option of partnering with another participant between classes in order to practice what they are learning.
The program includes six sessions on Zoom. These take place from 9:30 AM to noon on first and third Mondays. The dates are Feb 21, Mar 7 and 21, and April 4 and 18, and May 2, 2022. The leaders are Rev Susan Izard and Rev Oscar Brockmeyer. The cost of the program is $295. Spiritual Companions who see any directees for the Center are invited to enter a Promo Code for a $50 discount. The code is: DIRECTOR
