Expressions of Celtic Spirituality are found in many countries, in both Christian and non Christian settings. It is a mystical approach seeing the Divine as present in creation and a natural connection between people and the Sacred. In Celtic Spirituality, prayer is brought to all aspects of life. It is noted for being communal and non-hierarchical. "Soul-friends" accompany others on their spiritual journeys.
The Continuing Education Program at the Spiritual Life Center will offer an eight-session online program called "Celtic Spirituality for Spiritual Companions--Spring 2021". Prior participation in the Fall 2020 class is not required--the material is new and each module is designed to stand alone. The program is for those who have experience as spiritual directors. Participants will deepen their understanding and skills for spiritual companioning while enhancing their own spirituality.
We will be reading Christine Valtners Paintner's book, The Soul's Slow Ripening along with selected brief articles. We ask participants to keep a journal of their experiences. There will be a brief final project to be determined by the participant. Class members will have the opportunity, at a convenient time between classes, to partner with another class member to practice using what they are learning.
Topics to be covered include: Thresholds, Peregrinatio (Wandering), Blessing, Encircling Protection, Solitude and Silence, Seasonal Cycles, and Nature Theophany. The program will be led by Oscar Brockmeyer, Susan Izard, Molly Louden, Andrea Minelli, and Suzanne Nolan.
The program will take place on first and third Mondays from 9:30 am to noon via Zoom (note the time change). The dates in 2021 are 2/15, 3/1, 3/15, 4/5, 4/19, 5/3, 5/17, and 6/7. Various payment options are described on the registration page (just click below. Spiritual Directors who see clients for the Spiritual life Center are eligible for a $50 discount.).
